Abdullah Miniawy returns to perform live in Prague with Carl Gari trio and their latest joint album, ‘Shoot the Engine’, released on Amphibian Rec.

German group Carl Gari have been working with the Egyptian poet, singer and artist Abdullah Miniawy for almost a decade. After meeting in Cairo in 2015, the group debuted on The Trilogy Tapes with Darraje, later released The Act Of Falling From The 8th Floor (2019) on AD93.

Carl Gari seamlessly weave in dub techno and deconstructed club sounds across the Engine’s twelve parts, functioning as clubby and trippy environment to Miniawy’s harrowing voice: powerful thoughts on heavy realities constructed with fragile words.

“From my experience, if I don’t feel the text, I know that no one will. You can hear it, but it won’t hit you,” Miniaway says. We might not understand the text, but it will definitely hit us on July 27 in the Garden of Planeta Za.

Sound-testing the Garden before that will be Jasnovidec, a project of Michael Nechvátal (Kult Masek) and Daniel Jakeš (Koroze), known to oscillate between two extremes in their live sets: from minimalistic ambient to exploding wall of noise.

Carl Gari members Jonas Yamer and Jonas Friedlich will be joined by just claudia in Planeta’s DJ booth for the concert’s aftershow.
