Summer has flown by and I’m slowly getting more and more bummed that soon we’ll have to endure 8 months of gloomy shitty weather. That means only one thing tho, more sanctuary-seeking in a sweaty room with music turned up to *UNC* level. What better place for that than in the A-class factory for sonic dreams.

16–9–2023 supersonixx

I’m stoked that Oliver Torr and Exhausted Modern will finally bring a regular event of advanced and experimental music to Ankali. 

I’ve always admired producers who have gone the path of crazy sound design and it never stops to stimulate deep listening. It can be tricky though in a club setting, but Sorcery is not the case. You can expect to dance through the whole night.

We had wyme at our collaborative anniversary with Unizone last year in Ankali and her late-night set was a fantastic bassy trip, it’s a shame we didn’t recover the recordings…

The last time I heard Exhausted Modern play a DJ set was at a Gravity event in Ankali in 2022. It was an opening set and I remember him saying he’ll submerge the floor in a blanket. Maybe it wasn’t that poetic but that’s how I remember it. And he sure delivered 😉

Oli will be back from sunny Athens this September so this is a must-not-miss opportunity to catch the beast behind the mix. Haven’t seen the bugger play since June, where he smashed it with Ancestral Vision in Planeta. His live sets are one thing, but a good cardio sweat in the name of anything that pumps is what you can definitely expect on the 16th.

20 & 21–9–2023 Camouflage

I’ve missed all gallery-type events in Ankali so I’m happy to see a new edition on this month’s roster.

I first got to work more deeply with Teres, when she and Peter did lights for us (Amphibian) at Altenburg, and later at our second edition of Strahov. I’d sum it up as Malachi Constant said:“They’ll do a fantastic and beautiful job, a charm to be around, and they smile at you the whole time.” Her solo work as an illustrator and her great sense for stage aesthetics and light are something I’ve admired for a long time. It’s great to see her and Julie join forces on a site-specific and interdisciplinary project in the club. The last time I saw some photographs by Julie was at her This Might Be Useful One Day exhibition which was quite captivating so I’m curious to see what she has prepared for us.

I contacted Teres for some inside info about the two days of the club looking a bit different. Teres told me that Julie and she have known and been photographing together since high school, so it was only a matter of time before they would materialize their cooperation into a project like Camouflage.

You’re in for a treat musically, since Jan Burian will play an ambient set at the exhibition. I’ve recently heard Jan Burian together with Polina (mʊdʌki from our frog bunch) and Jan Krombholz (Dr. Kazpa) play a live set at Galerie Vltavska’s event Nejisté kartografie which blew me away. Unique textures and a great set of rhythmical designs, I’m curious to hear what he’ll prepare solo for the listening room. Also, there will be a selector debut happening – Jan Khür will present his premiere set, looking forward!

29–9–2023 Ankali x Rare

The last Friday of the month will welcome a wild bunch in the house. Now considered a classic, Rare will reappear in the club for a new edition of hard and mean (in a good way) music. For the second time they’re inviting Silent Servant who I don’t need to introduce too deeply I guess. If you like some true post-punk influenced techno and EBM, this party will be your jam.

Joining him in the booth are none other than Natka and Ondra – the two in CAPS on the poster – HNAT and HYΛEN.

And to wrap up the roster for the night, the pop of Rare – whydie? This dude never ends to surprise me in what an ardent selector he is. The last few times I heard him (Transforma, Disco Církev) he always presented arresting sets of great blends from EBM, to punk, techno and etc.
