Digging through October with Trauma

With our programme being interrupted by lockdowns and with the general inability to plan as much ahead as we used to, we paused the Digging through blog series, our monthly breakdown of what’s happening in the club by local (and foreign) contributors – artists, promoters and friends. Since we’ve been back on track for a while, it’s time to resume the digging and we’ve asked Mojmír Měchura aka Trauma of the Wrong collective to take a look at October 2022.

NŪR with Benedikt Frey, Jan Loup, Epoché and Kosmic Skaut

NŪR is a relatively new addition to Prague’s collectives, however the people behind are already well established on the scene. For their upcoming event at Planeta Za they’ve invited the hyper-productive Benedikt Frey, who is a part of an array of collaborations, have released an immense amount of music solo, and his style lies somewhere between electro, breaks, wave and tribal. If you are into stuff released on Pinkman label, it’s a good fit for you. The NŪR co-founder of Epoché will play along as well as Kosmic Skaut, and Jan Loup, a project I haven’t heard about until now, but want to hear live after browsing her Soundcloud page. Great production.

Šelest with Juliana Huxtable, DJ Travella, Krabs, Evil Medvěd & zey and more

Heartnoize promotion is currently one of the most active collectives around and their programming is always of high quality, no matter if they invite experimental, guitar, rap or post-punk projects. The spectrum of genres they’re interested in is wide and it’s nice to see they think in terms of dance music as well. For the third edition of their club series they’ve invited the multidisciplinary artist Juliana Huxtable, who had collaborated with SOPHIE, Björk or Fatima Al Quiadiri. Huxtable is able to mix everything from techno, through total deconstruction to trap and trance. Her energetic sets always surprise. A Nyege Nyege affiliate DJ Travella will perform next to her along with a multitude of great local names.

WRONG with Znzl, C4AT & The Undertaker’s Tapes, Zuzana Hakl, Trauma & HYΛEN

This month we’re back to Ankali with our Wrong collective and the guest we’re bringing has been in the works for a long time. French producer Znzl is a name you can’t miss on the underground industrial techno scene. His sound design approach pushes the genre somewhere close to the level of cyber techno. R-rated Transformers on steroids. We play his tracks pretty often in our sets and when we do and the track hits, the dancefloor turns into hell. Next to him, two of our members C4AT and The Undertaker’s Tapes will present a premiere of their new live set, we have Zuzana Hakl (NŪR) as the external guest of the local scene, and we will close the night in a b2b set with HYΛEN. It’s gonna be top-notch.

Ankali + BCAA: BCAAsystem, Objekt Blue, Oblaka, Piezo

I am very glad for the connection of Ankali and BCAA. An incoherent pair at first sight, but totally making sense with this line-up. At the same time it proves the local openness of the individual subscenes, which only helps the whole scene overall and prevents it from freezing. Object Blue is a big thing, but radical enough to become mainstream. She’s great at using pop and club methods, but without becoming predictable. The second foreign guest is Piezo, who’s in his own league. He released on the Italian label Hundebiss, which is a guarantee of quality itself. Oblaka (ex-Exhausted Modern) will join on the main stage, who has reaffirmed a detour from his more classical take on electro in favor of more experimental and deconstructed sound. And BCAA will overtake Planeta Za: bílej kluk, gertie adelaido, dzurillah b2b dirrtina and irako sei. Autotune rap, hardcore, metal, noise, gabber. There is nothig more to be said her, just that it’s going to be superb.

In a culture that values speed and efficiency, useless seconds thrives on longer formats, careful sound design and intention. What started as an anonymous YouTube channel for digging and “losing” time has grown into a label, collective, and now a sold-out memòri festival, shaping a sonic movement that refuses to stay still. Ahead of their …
